The HMUKLV, highest Hessian state authority, advocates for the sustainable protection of man and his natural resources. As part of the integrated LIFE project LiLa Living Lahn, the Ministry has taken the role of the coordinating beneficiary:  The Ministry is responsible for the overall project and financial management of the LIFE project and coordinates the cooperation of all project partners as well as the implementation of the individual actions, in particular for the Hessian part of the Lahn. For this task, the HMUKLV as member of the European Environmental Authorities Network (IMPEL) is highly qualified because of extensive experience in the management of regional and EU projects on different environmental topics and involving numerous stakeholders

German Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG)

German Federal Institute of Hydrology (BfG)
The German Federal Institute of Hydrology is characterized y a unique set of competences. It advises the ministries and the Waterways and Shipping Administration at federal level. Three scientific departments - quantitative hydrology, qualitative hydrology and ecology - work together in an interdisciplinary manner to meet the diversity of waterway relevant topics in Germany as well as the challenges arising from them. Since waterways do not stop at national borders, the BfG also attaches particular importance to international cooperation. The BfG will make a decisive contribution to the success of the project by establishing a sediment cadastre for the Lahn with pilot character for other waterways and rivers. And, it will give advice on fundamental ecological issues.

Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, Nutrition, Viniculture and Forestry of Rhineland-Palatinate (MUEEF)

The German Land Rhineland-Palatinate is represented by the Ministry of Environment, Agriculture, Nutrition, Viniculture and Forestry, Department of Water Management, as a project partner in the LIFE project "Living Lahn". The daily tasks include different restoration projects in smaller and large water bodies (in German: “Aktion Blau Plus”), coordinating the implementation of the Water Framework Directive, the planning and coordination of major water related conservation projects and an appropriate cooperation with the agricultural sector for a better protection of water bodies. In the LIFE project "Living Lahn", the MUEEF is involved in developing the so-called Lahn-Concept, a conceptual framework for the future use and conservation of the Lahn river. Furthermore, it closely works together with their implementing authority, SGD North, on local and regional measures to ensure linear patency at the affluents to the Lahn, structural improvements of the river bankd or flood protection.

Directorate for Infrastructure and Approval North (SGD Nord)

SGD Nord is one of the Higher Regional Authorities of the state of Rhineland-Palatinate. As a modern and comprehensive authority, it combines trade supervision, water and waste management, soil protection, spatial planning, land planning, nature conservation and construction as well as a service center for entrepreneurs and start-ups. SGD Nord stands for competence and ensures a fast and reliable processing of approval procedures. Thus, it substantially contributes to Rhineland-Palatinate as attractive place for business and healthy environment. SGD Nord is based in Koblenz, with regional representations in Montabaur, Idar-Oberstein and Trier.The regional authority of water & waste management and soil protection in Montabaur is responsible for the Lahn area. The project implementation is carried out in close cooperation with the competent Ministry of Environment of Rhineland-Palatinate (MUEEF).

Waterways and Shipping Office Mosel-Saar-Lahn (WSA Mosel-Saar-Lahn)

The Waterways and Shipping Office Mosel-Saar-Lahn (WSA MSL) is a regional authority within the Waterways and Shipping Administration of the Federal Government (WSV). The General Directorate for Waterways and Navigation (GDWS) is superior to it, whereby the Federal Ministry for Digital and Transport (BMDV) is the supreme federal authority with offices in Bonn and Berlin. The WSA MSL manages the waterways Mosel, Saar and Lahn (Lahn from km -11,075 near Gießen to km 136,300 shortly before the mouth to the Rhine River).

Governmental Authority of Gießen (RPGI)

The Governmental Authority of Gießen is responsible as a co-ordinating agency at intermediate level for the provinces of Limburg-Weilburg, Lahn-Dill, Gießen, Marburg-Biedenkopf and the Vogelsbergkreis including the three cities of Giessen, Marburg and Wetzlar. In certain areas, it carries out as well tasks of relevance for the Land Hesse (genetic engineering, home-care, agriculture).

Being one of the "Living Lahn" project partners, RP Giessen is responsible for the implementation of actions in the area of river restoration, in particular linked with WFD implementation and monitoring and as well Natura 2000 management, support and conservation measures for endangered fish species (e.g. greyling and gib head in the Upper Lahn or turbine management for eels). For a successful communication of project actions, RPGI carries out a series of public relations work in its region.
